Stop Hunger Trust Fund in India fortifies its mission to act locally and sustainably for a hunger-free nation

Initiates partnership with WFP Trust for India to tackle malnutrition in Odisha
Focus on education, women empowerment, and environmental sustainability among other strategic priorities
Targets 34% reduction in carbon footprint by 2025

Mumbai, January 30, 2023 – Making responsible progression towards achieving its corporate responsibility goals, world leader in quality of life services, Sodexo in India has strengthened its partner ecosystem by joining hands with foremost Indian NGOs in the food space, to eradicate hunger and food insecurity, educate and empower women, and reduce the carbon footprint, thus propelling the world towards a better tomorrow. STOP Hunger Trust Fund in India deepened ties with existing partners Sulabh International, India Food Banking Network (IFBN) and Dyansadhana Education Society, and further onboarded a new partner - WFP Trust for India in a symbolic MoU exchange ceremony hosted in the company’s corporate headquarters in Mumbai.

Speaking on the occasion, Sambit Sahu, Managing Director, Sodexo India, said, “As a responsible business, we are committed to fostering community growth and nurturing the environment where we operate and grow. Our efforts have always been to reach out to the hungry and malnourished and to the weaker sections of society. By promoting the education of girl child and ensuring prosperity of women, while keeping an eye on the sustainability factor, we can together progress towards a better tomorrow.”

STOP Hunger is working towards eradication of hunger and women empowerment over the past few years. With relevant actions implemented alongside strong local NGO partners, Stop Hunger global has been supporting key developmental projects worth INR 20 million in India. By 2025, we aim to positively impact the lives of 20,000 beneficiaries through the varied CR projects. The varied Corporate Responsibility engagements will work as under:

Sodexo, Stop Hunger and Sulabh International Centre for Action Sociology ( SICAS) will work together for women empowerment towards achieving food sovereignty and thus being financially independent. The partnership has already benefited more than 1100 women farmers in the last year, in Sangamner and Akola areas of Maharashtra. These women were encouraged to form an SHG where they grow crops from more than 60+ indigenous seeds. In the next 3 years, more than 1000 women will be educated on best farming practices, supported with required farming infrastructure, and urged to maintain the biodiversity of the land.

Sodexo and Dyansadhana Education Society’ Rishi Valmiki Eco School will also work in child education. By sponsoring the school fees of 273 girl students, they will enable education and upliftment of girl child in the underprivileged communities where access continues to be a challenge.

Targeting food sufficiency, Sodexo, Stop Hunger and Indian Food Banking Network (IFBN) will distribute 2000+ food and ration kits to orphanages, old age homes and other needy locations to eradicate hunger and ensure food insecurity. The ongoing partnership has served more than 78 thousand people from underprivileged families by distributing 169 tons of essential groceries at multiple locations across the country.
